Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 is an automatic espresso machine of 18-bar pressure. It has a stainless-steel-lined Thermoblock system, customizable strength, temperature and amount. There is also a rotary dial that allows you to program the machine easily.

It grinds, tamps, brews and cleans in just 60 seconds. All you need to do is to touch an appropriate button on the unit. In additional, it has a conical steel burr grinder and a pre-ground coffee funnel.

Using this espresso machine you can make 4-5/8 cups of espresso coffee. The water tank can be removed and filled easily; you may also want to use a frother that is a part of this espresso machine.

The machine is 17 x 9 x 14 inches of size and weighs 20 pounds. Together with this unit you will also get a 2-year limited warranty.

The Pros:

The machine is the preferable machine due to its extremely useful and user friendly features that give the end user complete control over the outcome of their coffee.

Because this espresso maker can be individually programmed for each single cup, whether mid or strong, and with a pre-heated cup, it is easy to set the unit and leave it whilst doing another task in the kitchen.

The Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 does not have a cup warmer. The preferred bean is Lavazza which the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 will grind at the recommended settings.

The water hardness settings are a positive feature. The water filter is nice as well. Maintenance for the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 is quite low. It uses very little energy. The machine has a function that advises when to empty the grinds and refill the water. It’s quiet, efficient, excellent quality and counter space friendly.

The Cons:

There are some flaws with the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4. Firstly the milk frothing wand comes loose. When it does so, it sprays milk and stream over nearby surfaces and the person operating the unit. The wand will no longer stay on long enough to froth enough milk for one latte. This is not ideal for the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 since it has the potential to scald the users hand with steam and hot milk.

A second issue with the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 is the water tank. It is fairly small but is located at the back of the machine. This means that if the machine is situated on a kitchen surface with a cupboard above it, this makes it awkward to get the water tank out from its position and even more awkward getting it back in when it is filled with water.

The coffee produced from the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 can come out warm, since there is no temperature control. This is acceptable for a black coffee but if milk and cream are to be added, the temperature is too low.

With the machine it can become necessary to use a chopstick to stir the beans so they’ll go down the chute to the grinder, which is rather a tedious process.

Overall Rating

It has been questioned whether the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 could replace a larger manual and brew quality espresso. However, if it is possible to use a demonstration unit, it does not take long to realise that the Jura-Capresso 13421 ENA4 Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center, Ristretto Black is very easy to use whilst providing a level of flexibility and control in its ability to make a great cup of coffee.
