A Review Of The Keurig B31 Mini Brewer Sinlge Cup Coffee Maker

My family and I recently tried the Keurig B31 Mini Brewer single cup coffee maker for a period of two weeks. We did this so that I could write a detailed review to anyone considering purchasing the B31 model. We packed up our usual coffee maker and banished it to storage for the duration of the review period. The Keurig B31 was used in its place so that we could see how this unit performs with normal daily usage. Here is my review.

First, it is important to note that this is the most inexpensive coffee maker offered by Keurig today. It will run you about $100, including the shipping. Keep that in mind when forming expectations for this unit. While that is still a somewhat mid-range price for a coffee maker, it is quite cheap for a Keurig.

I unpacked my new Keurig B31 mini brewer and looked it over. The color I had chosen when I ordered this unit was red. It is not that super-bright, lipstick red found on many modern red appliances. Rather, it is a more subdued, slightly darker red which I happen to like quite a lot. This model is a bit boxier than the other Keurig models, not nearly as smooth and sleek in design. It does feel solid and well-made, but the overall appearance is just not as expensive as other Keurig coffee makers, but then again, this model is not as expensive as other Keurig coffee makers. This is a very basic model; there is no back-up reservoir, just enough room for 10 ounces of water to brew one cup. You can also brew a smaller cup by simply putting less water into the machine. There are only two buttons: one for power and another to brew.

I brewed my first cup of coffee and it was ready in less than two minutes and very delicious. This Keurig mini brewer is much quieter than other single cup coffee makers I have used. The lack of options make this unit very easy to use. Making a second cup of coffee takes another two minutes, making this a less convenient option for anyone who brews a few cups of coffee close to each other. We noticed this the most one night when we hosted a dinner party in our home. The guests really enjoyed the options when choosing their coffee flavors, but it seemed to take a very long time to completely finish the eight cups of coffee. I was serving chocolate lava cakes, which need to be warm when served. Some of the cups of coffee were cold by the time all eight cups were brewed, making it impossible to serve perfect coffee and dessert to all eight people at the table at the same time. I would use my regular full-sized coffee maker when entertaining in the future if this Keurig B31 was my everyday coffee maker. Keep that in mind if you intend to use this machine as your sole coffee maker. You may not want to throw out your old unit just yet.

Overall, my family and I enjoyed the simplicity and diminutive size of this coffee maker. We are taking a trip out of state soon and plan on bringing this machine with us so that we won’t be subjected to horrible motel coffee. This model will be much easier to travel with compared to the full-sized models, and with the lower price I won’t be as concerned about it bouncing around in our luggage. This Keurig B31 is a good value. It is a great option for someone who really wants a Keurig but doesn’t want to spend a lot.
